The advancements in healthcare technology are at their best right now. And it's not restricted to a few countries. India is also witnessing such developments in its healthcare technologies. The term includes devices, medicines, vaccines, procedures and systems developed and designed to rationalise healthcare operations, reduce treatment costs, enhance precision and improve the quality of care provided to end-users. Healthcare technologies are aided by Artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, voice search, chatbots and virtual reality (VR), apart from telemedicine which has picked up pace rapidly last year with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
AI alone appears as a game-changer in the healthcare field, and its use is expected to snowball through 2021. Experts believe that AI can play a crucial role to reduce the risk of preventable medical scenarios.
Firstly, it can function as automatic reminders for patients to take the medication within a specific timeframe and also do their mandatory tests. Secondly, it assists in identifying patients at high risk and in need of immediate medical intervention. Thirdly, a personalised medication that has already made its way can be further benefited by AI. It can recommend personalised dosage based on an individual patient’s unique body chemistry and related environmental factors.
