Wrong e-challans include challans issued to vehicles that have different registration number or make. For instance, a vehicle with an MH04 registration number receiving a challan issued for an MH01 numberplate or a motorcyclist receiving a challan meant for a car. In September last year, the traffic department approached Mumbai District Legal Services Authority when unpaid fines in the state touched Rs 1,100 crore. Notices are sent to motorists by the authority, instructing them to either clear all dues or appear before Lok Adalats.
