25 Ways to Ask Without Asking.
You probably ask your kids this question every single day, and the answer is always the same: “Good.” “Fine!” – that’s not what mum wants to hear. Here are more creative ways to get your kids to talk about the school day because, let’s face it, we want to know what went on:
1“What was the best thing that happened at school today?” Okay, so what you’re really trying to find out is the worst thing that happened at school. This question will get the kids talking and you’d be surprised at how much had happened.
2“Tell me something that made you laugh today.” Kids are very easily amused. They’ll tell you stories about comments that their teacher had made and, while they may not make any sense to you, you’ll find that they’ve literally made their month.
3“Who’s the friendliest person in your class?” We want our kids to make friends and be comfortable in their own skin at school, and that’s the perfect way to gauge interest in the social aspect of their school day.
4“What did you not like about school today?” Let’s hope there isn’t too much! The answer to this question will most probably be negative, but it’s a subtle way to know the things your kid isn’t loving about school.
5“Did anyone get in trouble today?” Not only is this a good way to know if your child was up to anything mischievous, but it’s also a sneaky way to show them that, even if they did, you would be there for them.
