Helping parents develop skills for effective pacifier weaning

Bye Bye, Binky!

Most parents will tell you that pacifiers are a lifesaver when it comes to placating their child and helping to deal with moodiness, sleeping, and other issues. It’s a fact that pacifiers help babies and toddlers to self-soothe at night without parents being present, freeing them up to do things like the dishes, watch TV or even sleep without needing to calm the baby and get it to settle. Sounds like a winning situation right? It is – until it becomes a problem. Like all things, an over reliance on it becomes an issue, and your child will have to learn to give up his comforting binky someday. Pacifiers can be – and usually are – the last things that children are weaned off, after breast milk and using the potty. But the catch is, what do you do when the time comes for your child to stop using a pacifier?
