PSR REVIEW
GOLD AWARD PLAY
Time, mercilessly marching on, is very rarely made a fool of, but Nathan Drake’s PS5 debut does just that. Despite his final adventure turning six years old this year, this remaster bundle looks almost as good as any PS5 game we’ve played so far. From the verdant jungles of pirate paradise Libertalia to the squalid cells of a Panamanian prison, this is a truly exceptional technical showcase.
Now, we’re not saying Uncharted 4 or The Lost Legacy even needed a touch-up, but this PS5 update makes them both glow, almost literally at times, with gorgeous lighting throughout that gives both games a suitably new-gen feel. The package also boasts a Quality mode that runs at 4K and 30fps, a Performance mode that lowers the resolution but finally gives us 60fps Uncharted, and a Performance+ mode that doubles the framerate to 120fps, albeit at the cost of lowering the resolution to 1080p.
Performance is the way to play, with the slight reduction in resolution barely noticeable, but the fluidity of the action tangibly better, as you gain more control in firefights and get a smoother ride throughout. That’s not to say Quality isn’t worth playing, mind you – unforgettable moments like wandering through King’s Bay in Uncharted 4 or exploring the Western Ghats in The Lost Legacy deserve nothing but the best.
