Let's accept the fact that the food we eat does not carry a sole intent of nourishing the body with the required nutrients. Rather, it's relished by the taste buds and enjoyed by all our senses. What we may not realise is that the impact of eating meat is huge and it not only affects us but the society and the planet at large. The meat industry has become extremely damaging to the planet. As a result, today we need to be more considerate and compassionate towards the other living species.

Let's take a bird's eye view to understand how damaging the meat industry has really become. According to ADAPTT (Animals Deserve Absolute Protection Today and Tomorrow), more than 150 billion animals are killed each year by the meat, egg, and dairy industries. This is devastating for the planet as well. It results in the wastage of limited natural resources such as land and water. Livestock production accounts for 30% of the entire surface of the planet. On an average, it takes approximately 2,400 gallons of water to produce just 1 pound of meat, which is close to full 50 bathtubs. Animal agriculture accounts for 51% greenhouse gas emissions and it is responsible for about 15% to 18% of the world's climate change. This is a very heavy cost we have to pay to satisfy our taste buds and in return it badly affects our health.
