Teenage goal-getter, Kathleen McGovern has now scored against Rangers both home and away in derby games this season

THE Celtic Women’s side got right back on track early doors on Sunday and carried on their SWPL1 winning run, with the 3-1 victory over Rangers marking a sterling start to the second half of the season following a summer break.

The tone of the game was set when Kathleen McGovern opened the scoring after quarter-of-an-hour to add to her other derby strike, scored against the Ibrox side in the corresponding match at Tinto Park earlier on in the season when the Hoops won 4-1.

Celtic went into the break on the back of a five-game winning run that included a 3-0 victory over Hibernian, and now the Hoops sit in second place, three points above the Edinburgh team.

These are exciting times for the Celtic Women’s side as a unit, and 17-year-old Kathleen McGovern as a player, as she was singled out in last week’s Celtic View by captain, Kelly Clark, as one for the future. This week’s Celtic View caught up with the youngster following the 3-1 derby win.

Especially after that result, it must good to be back after the mid-season break?

It’s great to be back, especially as the break came at a bad point for us because we had been on a five-game winning run. However, to come back with a victory was really good, and to get on the scoresheet myself, I was buzzing with it. Obviously, it was against our derby rivals and there was a big support for us as well, which we didn’t expect. I really get excited when we play Rangers, so it was a big day for me.

How were you and the team feeling going into the game?
