Now fully fit, Wallace Duffy hopes to help the Celtic Reserves at both ends of the pitch

AN ankle injury in the Celtic reserve squad’s 4-1 win over Falkirk in February saw Wallace Duffy sidelined for three weeks. The 19-year-old returned to action for the first-time last week, when Tommy McIntyre’s side hit Dundee for six without reply.

A double from Jack Aitchison, and goals from Thomas Caffrey, Kerr McInroy, Armstrong Oko-Flex and Vakoun Bayo secured maximum points for the Hoops at Forfar’s Station Park, the latter goal of which saw Duffy provide an assist with a defence-splitting reverse pass for his Ivorian colleague.

Better still, the full-back scored a goal of his own against Hearts as the Hoops overcame the Edinburgh side 3-2 at Cappielow on Monday.

In an exclusive interview with the Celtic View, Duffy outlined his personal and collective targets between now and end of the reserve league season.

A 6-0 win is a good result in anyone’s book, but to score six goals with five different scorers is all the more encouraging.

It’s great. We’ve got guys like Jack Aitchison who scored two against Dundee, we’ve got strikers like Bayo who also found the net, but we’ve also got goals from the likes of Kerr McInroy. It’s always good to have goals from all over the pitch as it means you’re never relying on one or two individual players.

It’s tight at the top of the reserve league this season, so focus must be important at this point of the campaign?

Absolutely. Winning against Dundee last week put us top of the league, which was the first time this year we’ve been top. But there’s still a bit to go from here. We’ve still got four of the top six to play in the coming weeks. We just need to keep concentrated, keep our focus, and we know that wins against those top teams will go further as well.
