Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan (35) announced his retirement from all forms of cricket more than seven years after he last played for India. After a promising start, Pathan could not reach the heights he was once expected to. Pathan finished his career with 29 Tests, and exactly a hundred wickets at an average of 32.26. He enjoyed greater success in ODIs, claiming 173 scalps in 120 ODIs at an average of 29.72. Pathan also picked up 28 wickets in 24 T20Is at a strike rate of 16.5. Further, Pathan scored 1,105 runs in Tests, including a hundred against Pakistan, and 1,544 in one-dayers.

IMPRESSIVE START
It is no secret that Pathan made a memorable start to his international career. From his debut on December 12, 2003, at Adelaide till December 31, 2005, Pathan featured in 18 Tests and picked up a rich haul of 73 wickets at an average of 26.13. His best of 7 for 59 came against Zimbabwe at Harare in September 2005. The only disappointing aspect was that all his five-fors came against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh -- three each. With the bat, he averaged 26.71 and registered the fifties against Australia, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
