I’m not trying to be funny, but I would say try to hit a draw! Feeling the difference between the two is key.
2 Reading greens
Read your putts in sections. Start close, then work your way back through it and pick your spots. Try to then hit your spot in every section. So if you have a ten-footer, divide it into three sections.
3 Match play
Don’t give anything away! I don’t mean don’t give short putts if they are stone dead – I mean just don’t give any holes away. People think you’ve got to make pars or birdies to win a hole, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes even bogey is good enough. Anything can happen in match play and you’ve got to make them work for it. So just make sure you’re always in the hole – it doesn’t always have to be a birdie or an eagle!

The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue? Why would anyone even suggest such a drastic course of action? It may sound harsh, but since the inaugural event in 1994, the International team has managed just one victory and one tie while the American team has won 12 times, including nine straight from 2005. It is 26 years since the International team's solitary success in 1998 at Royal Melbourne under the captaincy of the late Peter Thomson.
