What a miserable six weeks this will be. Good thing they invented holiday cheer to get Redskins fans through the season.
Wait, this is a Redskins magazine. We’re supposed to show the upside. Sorry, that ended a long time before New York fans chanted “J-E-T-S” in the empty stands following New York’s 34-17 rout at FedUp Field. To be cheery over what has happened to this franchise would be a disservice to fans.
Here’s the bottom line – there has never been a worse time to be a Redskins fan. Well, maybe 1961 when the team was 0-9-1 versus the current 1-9, but the difference now is fans have forsaken the franchise. There were maybe 31,000 people at the Jets game on Nov. 17. About 60 percent were Jets fans, meaning there were maybe 12,000 Redskins fans at a home game. And, that may be a generous count.
A 1-9 team that went 16 straight quarters without scoring a touchdown, the longest NFL streak since 2001 and the team’s worst since 1936 in the final year in Boston, and no fans means rock bottom has been finally breached after several attempts in the 20-year Dan Snyder era.
So now what?
Really, there’s not much else to do but continue on. There are no magical free agents, no reserves who are better or else they’d probably be doing so.
