Kings ‘Legends’ Can Help Sam Claim Top Billings
SAM Billings may be missing the start of the county season with Kent but he’s confident he’ll return from the IPL a better player, labelling his Chennai Super Kings a team of “legends”.
The Super Kings have had two memorable wins in the opening week of the IPL with Billings scoring 56 from just 23 balls to help his side to a five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Knight Riders were struggling at 89-5 before No.7 Andre Russell crashed an incredible 88 from 36 balls – including 11 sixes – to get the visitors to a more than competitive 202-6.
But Australian Shane Watson hit 42 from 19 to get the Super Kings off to the perfect start with Billings taking them within touching distance of victory before Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo lifted them over the line.
“It was an absolute pleasure to play in a team of legends, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh,” said Billings, who hit five sixes in the game.
“That’s the great thing about the IPL if you have the opportunity. With Mike Hussey as batting coach as well, it’s up to you to learn as much as you can from those guys.
