GOOD news has been in short supply in Durham over the past two seasons but Jon Lewis is optimistic the tide has turned after the impending arrivals of Aiden Markram and Tom Latham were announced.
The South African opener Markram will head to the Riverside for the first four games of the County Championship, before the New Zealander picks up the baton on his return to the north east.
The fact that both have international captaincy experience is more than simply a happy coincidence, following the departures over the past two years of the likes of Keaton Jennings, Mark Stoneman and Paul Coughlin.
And for Lewis, the two new arrivals can have an impact on the perception of the club, as well as the results on the field.
He said: “These things take their time so it’s nice to get them across the line with the Is dotted and the Ts crossed. It’s good to get it into the public as well. We need to have good news coming out of the club at times, it feels like we’ve had bad news for quite a while now.
