Fans still come because they always come, always have, always will, but even those numbers will fall with the temperature amid another bleak season at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants’ season has all but faded to black, the curtain closing fast on 2019, the latest embarrassing campaign of stealing the hearts and money of loyal followers. You want to see time slow? Bust your gut and your bank account cheering on the Giants. By Week 8 or so each fall, the days crawl like a turtle seeking the other side of the road.
Tick… tock… Tick… tock… Tick… tock…
That is generally when clichés are yanked from their short-term storage bin. ‘Playing for pride.’ ‘Just trying to get better.’ ‘Focusing on Sunday’s game.’
It’s a time when you don’t hear a whole lot about winning football games.
The Giants were fresh off another lame effort, another messy game against the Dallas Cowboys, as they prepared for the dreary inter-stadium matchup against the Jets.
They share a home and all that comes with it, yet today these teams seem as similar as they have ever been, poorly coached and managed as the fall chill stares down another long offseason.
These are the moments, in the days following another predictably poor effort against Dallas, when it’s hard to get excited about anything surrounding the New York Giants.
There is the quarterback and the running back and very little else separating this franchise from that of the Miami Dolphins or Washington Redskins or Cleveland Browns – three other longtime losers.
