‘Hello and welcome to your digital learning assistant’. This could be a greeting that students will be accustomed to hearing in the very near future. With the speed at which advanced technology like artificial intelligence (AI) is developing, it will not be long before it revolutionises the very perception of education. But, is this change even needed? Can India walk hand-in-hand with this change and embrace it? Currently, traditional education methods have adopted a one-size-fits-all approach. The same teaching methodologies are used to teach hundreds of students. There is little regard for individual learning speeds, computational abilities, and memorising capacity. The use of technology with education can change this and bring personalisation to education.
What about Indian education?
The scenario of education in India is very different from the world. There are close to 250 million children rolled in schools, and 60 percent of these attend government schools. Many government schools are stretched for infrastructure and resources, especially quality teachers. Above all, being a developing country, India has an abysmal student teacher ratio. For this, it was ranked 135th out of 163 countries. Not only did it lose to developed countries like U.S. & UK, but also lost to countries of similar economic conditions and population density like Cuba, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. Let’s find out why is it important, and how can technology be a huge help to the Indian education industry.
