City At A Glance: New Delhi
Lonely Planet Asia|May 2017

This city is less a destination and more a journey of its own: a time capsule with which to take several peeks into the history of the many dynasties it has housed, as well as a peek into the veritable present of this colourful sub-continent. A round city on the Indian map, New Delhi leaves you in a tizzy for more than just its shape…

City At A Glance: New Delhi

A LOT HAPPENS IN DELHI. An average day whizzes by like a hurricane, one that needs you to dodge a labyrinth of busy beings on roads, each giving in to the pace of a city where everyone is trying to make a mark for themselves. Even if you are from some of the biggest cities in the world, claiming to be familiar with this pace, the race, the crowds, you’re bound to be surprised. Buckle up though; don’t let this stop you from taking in a city that deserves to be experienced right.

The city has a long and rich history, having seen far too many dynasties inhabit it and seep into the present culture of the city. You can see it in the architecture, in the startlingly different neighbourhoods that range from sleek lines and modern extravagance, to the historic sepia-toned monuments, temples and old residences in faded kitschy shades. The roads line with a range of vehicles signifying the gaping economic divides that the city houses, from green and black auto-rickshaws and multicoloured cycle-rickshaws (to really get the wind in your hair) to cars ranging from the vintage Ambassador and the latest Bentley. They line back to back, with impatience that resounds in the honks you hear on the road. Smiles still sneak their way through the frustration and impatience in this ever-thriving city, and that’s your first sign that you’re in for more surprises than you realised.

Extraordinary Places To Stay: Spring B&Bs

Every avid traveller knows the definition of a bed and breakfast, and a night’s stay can end in two scenarios. The former being a faultless stay in the perfect room, adequate furnishings, clean beddings and friendly hosts accompanied with a wonderful breakfast spread. The latter probably least ideal - a crossroad between a shabby and derelict façade, unpleasant musky scents alongside bedding that seem to cry for a desperate wash. Whatever the price point, there should be no need to compromise on quality. Here are our round-ups of some exquisite spring bed and breakfast options.
