Singer and TV judge Alesha Dixon can rock a party dress like no other. We discover how the fitness fan stays strong, calm and confident

'The Older I Get, The More Comfortable I Am In My Own Skin'

Alesha Dixon impresses with her tuck jumps. They’re performed with power and athleticism, and she gains the kind of height that only someone with endless legs can achieve. During the workout, the 39-year-old is focused, and we glimpse the determination that has seen her go from 1990s girl band member to one of Britain’s most popular personalities. When the sweat session ends, we sit down for a chat – Alesha is battling with a swivel chair and soon lets out the infectious laugh that we’ve heard so many times on Britain’s Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and, more recently, on The X Factor as a guest judge. It’s hard not to feel at ease, and the conversation moves along effortlessly. In fact, a chat with Alesha is no less natural than nattering with a friend. She’s confident, yes, but also funny, easy going and surprisingly down-to-earth – and I quickly discover why the Hertfordshire lass is one of the biggest names on television today.

Staying fit

Janet Malinowska is Alesha’s personal trainer of seven years. Their one-on-one sessions include a mix of dynamic moves, plyometrics (jumping) exercises, weighted work and core drills. ‘I call her Janet The Machine,’ Alesha laughs. ‘Workouts with her are never boring because, every time she shows up, we try something new. She knows me really well and knows how far she can push me.’
