Although Tracy Singo is living with multiple disabilities after getting shot, she is making the most of her life
EIGHT years ago, Tracy Singo’s, life changed when three robbers stormed into her home and shot her in the head. This traumatic incident could have easily killed her, but she survived it by what she believes is the grace of God. Although she still has a bullet stuck in her head and is living with some disabilities, she is living a fulfilled life.
LIFE BEFORE THE INCIDENT
Tracy has always been level-headed and never afraid to go for what she wants.
She grew up in Venda and always had a plan for her life. Her interest in science inspired her to study biochemistry and she enrolled for a BSc Chemistry and Biochemistry.
She graduated with a BA Honours in chemistry and went on to do her masters in biochemistry. She then moved to Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng to work as a senior lecturer at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).
ROBBERS ATTACKED HER
Tracy remembers the day she was shot very well.
“My spirit was troubled that day. I did not know why but I felt like something was going to happen.”
Her intuition was right. “I saw a car parked by the gate at home and within minutes, I heard footsteps in the yard. The next thing I saw were three men inside my house, with one pointing a gun at me.”
She was ordered to walk to the bedroom with a gun to her back.
“I thought the worst thing that could happen would be getting raped. At that point I didn’t know what they really wanted, so I followed their instructions. When we got to the bedroom, they kept trying to suffocate me with pillows and then told me they wanted my car keys and money. I told them we could go to an ATM and I promised to give them R2 000.”
