She’s More at Home in Front of a Cooker Than a Camera
Domestic goddess Nigella Lawson has won fans around the world thanks to her recipes, cookery books and delicious dishes.
But in a new interview about her life and career, the kitchen queen has revealed how New Zealand and Australia have captured her heart thanks to her role on the hit show MasterChef.
Nigella (59) joined the show back in 2011, and is seen regularly handing out cooking advice with her co-star judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris.
However, despite all her accolades, Nigella says it is the people and viewers Down Under that she thanks for her new-found life.
“I do like it in Australia, as I like the people there. The show has been going for 11 years. They are very funny the Australians, too. I have worked in America, Australia and New Zealand, and America is a really foreign country.
“Everyone is quite reverential in America and they think in a different way. Australians are quite funny. You have a laugh on set and it is something I understand more. I would not say I’ve broken Australia. It makes me sound rather violent.”
And while she admits she would never do well if she competed on the show herself, Nigella says MasterChef Australia is better than all of its sister formats that run in other countries around the world.
“It is just better,” says Nigella.
