The Royal secret is out, And Harry and Meghan couldn't be happier.
It was the coat that gave the game away. When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, turned up at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in a loose coat rather than one of her usual figure-hugging dresses, tongues began to wag.
And when she arrived in Sydney two days later carrying two large purple folders that blocked her midriff, she might as well have held a sign that read, Baby on Board.
Shortly after they touched down, Kensington Palace announced that Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, were expecting their first child, possibly because the rumour mill had gone into such overdrive, it seemed pointless to keep the happy news secret any longer.
Insiders say they kept quiet until after the latest royal wedding because they didn’t want to steal Eugenie and Jack’s thunder. And contrary to earlier reports, they didn’t wait until they were at the wedding to break the news to family – senior family members including the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles already knew, as did Eugenie and Jack. “It was the first chance for everyone to congratulate them, quietly, in person,” explains one source.
It’s thought Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – their neighbours at Kensington Palace – were among the first people told.
