Vicky Saynor, 46, was married to Guy, 53, for four years. She is now married to Chris, 46.
As the champagne flowed, I looked around and felt fortunate to be surrounded by the people I loved. It was my wedding day in June 2018 and although it might sound strange that one of our cherished guests was my ex-husband, it felt completely natural to have him there.
When I met Guy, then 34, in 2002, I was just 26. We both worked in investment banking and we got along brilliantly. Working in the same industry meant we had shared interests and the same friends, and we’d often go for dinner after work.
We quickly fell in love and within two years, we were married. I wore a big, white dress, and when we exchanged vows and swore to love each other for the rest of our lives, I meant it.
Guy was my best friend. He was supportive when I said I wanted to launch my own business and he gave me so much advice and encouragement. In April 2005, I left my job and opened a day spa in south London. As a young, female boss, employing staff and building a business was empowering, and as I strived for success, Guy cheered me on.
I pushed thoughts of having children aside and my business became my baby. But while the salon went from strength to strength, our marriage took a back seat.
Guy met friends in the city while I socialised with salon staff. We rarely made time for each other and our sex life dwindled. I was fiercely independent and, at times, I felt judged for having a ring on my finger. I didn’t want people to assume I was dependent on my husband so I’d take off my wedding band and slip it in my pocket.
