These islands off Africa give the Canaries a run for their money
WHY GO?
Known for its creole Portuguese-African culture, Sal is one of 10 small isles that make up idyllic cape Verde.
Situated on the West coast of africa and known to the locals as cabo Verde, the islands are still relatively unknown to the mainstream holiday market.
Boasting a year-round average temperature of 26 degrees, with rainfall very rare, the long stretches of largely unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear turquoise water make it the ultimate destination for sun–seekers who want to get away from it all without the long-haul flight. you can fly non-stop from Birmingham, Bristol, London and Manchester in around six hours.
Crayola-coloured houses line the streets, with residents encouraged to paint their homes their favourite shades. and the local people, from all walks of life, are so friendly and inviting it’s not surprising to learn ‘no stress’ is the nation’s favourite motto – everyone here seems to abide by it.
HIT THE BEACH CLUB
The impressive Bikini Beach club is a unique place to relax, wine, dine and party until the early hours. set 40 metres into the Atlantic ocean, it certainly makes for a VIP experience! entry to the club is free, but all poolside beds come with a minimum spend – see the website (bikinibeachclub.com) for events and package prices. The weekly Saturday night party is not to be missed.
