When I talk about my marriage, I do so with great ease. My husband is my best friend. We share so many loves together – food, travel, music and the same politics. I am cared for. He sorts things out for me, from my laptop to family feuds. He makes my life easier whenever he can. There’s a deep connection between us and I have learnt a lot from him. But there’s something missing...
We got married in 2004, in a beautiful marquee outside a stately home. It was a gorgeous, sunny day. My husband, 15 years my senior, is in the entertainment industry, and everything felt very glamorous. He was what I always wanted: kind, intelligent, creative and exciting. I was in my 20s and he was in his 40s. I always felt that I would suit being married to an older man, someone mature enough to have an intelligent conversation with.
We had always been in touch with each other, both physically and emotionally but, about four years into our marriage, I noticed that his highly stressful career was taking a toll on him. He was less interested in me, physically, and so our intimacy was becoming less frequent. But that’s what happens in marriages, isn’t it?
Putting out the rubbish and paying bills takes over, so I never really worried about it. We were still very much in love and we had an exciting life in London; going to gigs, dining out in wonderful restaurants and just having so much fun. So why would I worry? I was loved and appreciated.
