We all know that the content of what we eat is vital to our health, and helps our bodies repair, grow and heal. For example, the protein in fish, meat, beans and pulses feeds our muscles, bones and cartilage, helps regulate hormones, and oxygenates our blood. Plus, it keeps our hunger levels down.

The vitamins and minerals in that green veg and fruit we’ve been force-feeding our children, meanwhile, helps us withstand disease.

Given it’s January, you may have heard the word ‘calorie’ quite a lot. You may, as part of a new health drive, want to shift some body fat by tracking how many calories you eat.

Body fat is just excess calories which have been consumed but not used up (in daily steps or exercise) so they’re stuck on various parts of our body. To lose it, we need to eat less fuel than we need so the shortfall is made up from that body fat.
