Standing at the airport gates, clutching a bouquet of red roses, David Frisken’s heart raced as he searched the sea of faces at Sydney’s international arrivals terminal.
For 660 days, the 25-year-old had been separated from his fiancee Hye Young Moon, who was studying at university in South Korea when the international borders slammed shut in early 2020.
Last Monday as the first quarantine-free planeloads of travellers touched down on Australian soil, David and Hye Young were finally able to hold each other in their arms.
“I was so excited and nervous when I saw her – my eyes were welling up,” David tells Woman’s Day just hours after the couple were reunited on November 1.
“Having her here, there’s no way to describe the feeling. Seeing her so happy has been the best part. I was worried it had been so long it would be like dating all over again but being together, it was just like we’d seen each other yesterday.”
