Dame Olivia de Havilland famously said, “I would prefer to live forever in perfect health, but if I must at some time leave this life, I would like to do so ensconced on a chaise longue, perfumed, wearing a velvet robe and pearl earrings, with a flute of champagne beside me...”
And while Olivia may not have quite got her wish, it was a gentle ending when the Hollywood icon passed away last week in her adopted home of Paris aged 104.
Born on July 1, 1916, Olivia became one of the biggest actresses of the ’30s and ’40s, appearing in almost 50 films including The Adventures Of Robin Hood, The Snake Pit and They Died With Their Boots On.
