Mum Talia flies her excited family to their ‘outback office’

There’s no beeping of car horns or traffic jams for Talia Ellis on her commute to work.

A skilled pilot, Talia flies her husband Courtney and five children from their farm in Berrigan, NSW to the pub they own in Birdsville, in far western Queensland.

“It’s like a road trip in the air,” laughs Talia of the four-and-a-half-hour trip.

“The kids are set up with snacks and entertainment, and Courtney wrangles them,” she says of Alexandra, 17, Sophie, 15, Harry, 12, Sierra, three, and one-year-old Jonty.

“The little ones have been brought up in the plane with me since they were five or six weeks old, and the older kids are always fighting over the front seat next to me.

“They beg me to go up. They’re keen to get into flying, too.”
