Increase Your Child's Self-Esteem

Psychologists define self esteem as the value addition we do to our own selves, for coping with daily life. It is the confidence we have in our own selves. By this, we often increase our self worth and build endurance, to lead a positive life. Simple statements repeated to oneself like “I am worthy of appreciation”, “I am good at my work” enhances our positive emotions and gives a sense of fulfillment and triumph.

The amount of self-esteem one develops, is shaped by the environment and by the encouragement we get during childhood. So, children with high self-esteem would act independently, take responsibility for their actions, control their negative/positive emotions, attempt challenging tasks and would also be proud of themselves after accomplishing any task. However, those with low self esteem would avoid public interactions, blame others for failures, feel unworthy of love and affection, would not be able to control their emotions and would choose a wrong way of expressing emotions.

To increase a child’s self-esteem, parents need to do a few tasks, when their kids are in their early childhood and early teens. These things are mostly done through words, when parents talk to their children, and this in turn helps the children to develop their self-esteem.

Give substantial amount of appreciation
