Design Debate is a constructive debate on Traditional design vs Technology focused design that is designed to be interactive, and knowledge led. And the Chandigarh edition of the series was exactly that! It gave a lot of food for thought and invited interest not only from the panelists but also the audience. The interactive discussion kick-started with a presentation by Partha Karmakar, Business Head, Professional Lighting, Havells India, on the role of light in helping improve productivity and comfort in spaces, while showcasing how technology can be smartly used to create conducive environments in all kinds of spaces. He shared, “When it comes to technology, most people tend to think of it from the engineering point of view and ignore the human aspect, which is what we at Havells would like to do and marry the two.” He further stated that “deeper knowledge of tradition helps to anchor ourselves rightly, acting as the ‘light house’ which provides the reference point in design direction and the choices we make.”
The evening was made even more special with the presence of one of the city’s most respected architects, Architect SD Sharma, who was felicitated in honour of his contribution towards the architecture of the city of Chandigarh.
With that, we had Architect Sangeet Sharma, the curator of the panel discussions, present his thoughts on the topic – Tradition vs Technology. “Tradition and technology survive by moving ahead together. They have a separate road plan - yet co-exist. The dialogue percolates from the source,” he aptly said, stirring an agreement from the panelists and the audience.
