Vijayaraj Crashes; Datta Wins Championship

A driver's championship slipped through the hands of Ahura Racing while Datta capitalised on the unforeseen development

THE FINAL ROUND OF THE JK TYRE National Racing Championship was a fitting finale for the 25th edition of the competition. Following the previous round at the Hyderabad Street Circuit, in the LGB Formula 4 category, Ahura Racing's Viswas Vijayaraj and Dark Don Racing duo Arya Singh and Ashwin Datta were separated by only 13 points while the JK Tyre Novice Cup's five top drivers only had an eight-point gap to close over the weekend. Here is what transpired at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.

Datta started from pole position with his teammate, Tijil Rao, for company on the first row. The drivers from Dark Don Racing quickly took the lead. Vijayaraj who had started fifth drove very well and managed to close that gap a few laps into the race, fighting his way into P2. However, a contact with Datta at the end of the back straight sent him spinning out of the top spots but he did manage to re-join the race.
