THE PRICIER AND glitzier desert-bashing Dakar and track-focused GT3 RS versions of the 911 may have been stealing all the limelight recently, but Porsche hasn't forgotten about the more affordable end of its flagship sports car range. The Carrera T sits one tier above the entry-level Carrera; 'T' stands for Touring, and it could make the most sense of the entire line-up for the extra kit and sportiness it gives you for a 10% price hike.

Visible upgrades are subtle but worthwhile. Outside, the T is distinguished by grey door mirror caps, Carrera T logos on the doors, larger wheels (20in front and 21in rear( and oval exhaust pipes. Inside, the rear seats and some of the sound insulation have been jettisoned, and along with thinner glass and a lighter battery, that adds up to a total weight saving of 35kg over the standard Carrera. Meanwhile, a sportier adaptive suspension set-up that lowers the car by 10mm promises greater poise in corners.
