His Late Highness Maharaja Hanwant Singh Rathore (16 June 1923–26 January 1952) represented the ethos of a dynamic ruler of Marwar with diverse interests and qualities. He was one of the finest maharajas of the Indian princely state of Jodhpur with pioneering contribution in the fields of science, aviation, armed forces, politics, magic, art, music and more.
HH Hanwant Singh married Maharani Krishna Kumari Sahiba of Dhrangadhra in 1943, and had three children—daughters Sailesh Kumari who married in Banswara and Chandresh Kumari Katoch of Kangra; and son Gaj Singhji Rathore. HH Hanwant Singh succeeded his father as the Maharaja of Jodhpur on 9 June 1947 and held the title till he passed away in a plane crash on 26 January 1952 at the young age of 28.
