It can be quite scary to come from a family of accomplished performers like Kamal Haasan and Sarika. But Shruti Haasan, who wears many hats representing her creative side, views it all as a genuine blessing. With her outstanding performances, the actress has made a name for herself in both the South and Hindi film industries. She says it hasn’t been that unusual for her because she comes from an acting family. She is aware that any small accomplishment she makes will be frequently contrasted with the achievements of her father. “I don’t think about it,” she responds when asked about it. “Because it’ll always be there. I believe in doing my own thing, carving my own path and I’m grateful to those who’ve liked my choices.” She adds that the best piece of advice her father has given her is no pain, no gain. She has realised the truth of it over the years and has always adhered to it.
Besides being an actor, she’s an accomplished singer too, which she says is a gift she has inherited from her father. She remembers the days when she and her parents discussed music and introduced her to numerous genres. “My mom enjoys listening to music and has great taste in music. She exposed me to some of my favourite artistes and musicians, including The Prodigy and Bob Dylan. My father also enjoyed musicals and classic rock and roll, which was wonderful. However, as evidenced by his films, he has a wonderful singing voice and musicality. Growing up, he and I would frequently sing together at home, which I thought was wonderful.”
