Getting married to a stranger on TV would be nerve-wracking for anyone, but new Married At First Sight UK star Matt had more to worry about, having been on telly before – and bombed.

The Harrogate hunk, 29, joined the show as a late addition, being matched up by experts with Cumbria-based Adrienne, who he met for the first time at the altar.

Ten couples have already tied the knot on the show, and the new “intruder” couple found joining the rest of the cast at the latest dinner party to be “daunting” – particularly as Matt was worried another groom may try to woo his bride.

“You have no idea what people are going to think of you, and the thing in my head was, ‘Oh my God, what if someone tries to take my wife?!’

“All these things go through your head. It took a good couple of weeks for me to be able to talk a bit more with everyone. Coming in quite late, you don’t know what to expect.”

As for his previous TV experience, Matt says a live interview he did during his sporting career proved to be “a car crash”.

“I did an interview on ITV and it went down like a lead balloon,” he laughs. “It was for diving – I had to do it around the Olympics.”
