JOANNA GAINES took her Instagram followers along for the ride on a recent vacation. Posting a video taken from an airplane window, she showed off the mountainous landscape of Seoul, South Korea, where her mom, Nan Stevens, was born and lived until emigrating to the U.S. in 1972 and marrying Joanna's German-Lebanese dad. Her caption: "We made it!"
The journey wasn't just from Waco, Texas, where the Fixer Upper: Welcome Home star lives with husband, Chip Gaines, and their five kids. The 44-year-old, who has admitted to hiding her Korean heritage in the past, has been on a personal quest to embrace her Asian roots. "Going to South Korea has been emotional for Joanna," an insider tells Star. "This trip has been amazing."
