The couple shelled out $61 million for their dream home, only to see their marriage fall apart

On June 9, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were holed up in their sprawling Beverly Hills mansion. But the pair weren't enjoying a loved-up reunion. Instead, sources tell In Touch, the former couple were joined by their lawyers and locked in "very tense" divorce negotiations. When Ben finally left at 9 p.m. (according to one source, the mediation lasted nine hours), he looked stonefaced.

"The talks," says an insider, "obviously didn't go well." The day before, the former couple had listed the megamansion, which was supposed to be their forever home. "Ben never seemed happy living there," says the insider. "As soon as he and J. Lo moved in - after searching for months for the perfect home - the marriage started to go south. Suddenly they were alone in this big house" - which spans 52,000 square feet and has 17 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms -"and they had to face reality: They weren't seeing eye to eye on anything and were fighting more and more."
