Kubbra Sait finds inspiration in weird places. At traffic signals (she had just read a sign that says ‘GO SLOW’). She believes that if we are in the moment, inspiration is all around us. Messages are trying to reach us from all over the universe. Are we listening, watching and growing? That is the question, she says. This philosophical side to the actor is revealed as we discuss her part memoir-part inspirational treatise Open Book Not Quite A Memoir (HarperCollins Publishers India).
For her maiden innings as an author, Kubbra had to be accepting of all the events that had happened to her. "I was looking at myself as someone with a deep character history," the actor, performer, TV host and model reveals. "The best part of writing the book was looking at myself from the outside. The words, the lines were already written in my deep memory. I only had to bring them out for me (first), then the world to read." For the most part, she believes Open Book wrote itself, although it was a daunting task. She told herself, "Let's start with a small piece," and moved on. Once it started shaping up, it was a walkthrough. "It's not scripted or fiction... it's the life I've lived," she avers. "I do believe that it was about time that I put my old, past life behind me and created a future in the now. Writing Open Book was cathartic and special. It drew me closer to who I am inside out."
