When Austin Butler won a Golden Globe for his leading turn in Elvis on Jan. 10, few were more thrilled than the King of Rock and Roll’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. “I’m so happy,” she told People at the ceremony. Just two days later Presley suddenly died at the age of 54, devastating loved ones and fans worldwide. Now a newly released autopsy report is finally shedding light on the private health battles the singer endured in the months leading up to her shocking death.

According to the report, released on July 13 by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, Presley died of a small-bowel obstruction that developed after she underwent bariatric surgery several years ago. Such obstructions are “a known long-term complication of this type of surgery,” deputy medical examiner Dr. Juan Carrillo wrote of the weight-loss procedure, adding that Presley had spent the past several months “feeling feverish and vomiting.”
