Perry’s presence in the series makes it all feel much more personal than that other series about celebrities cheating death, Running Wild With Bear Grylls. Their conversations are emotionally raw and philosophical; she reminds him to chant, a practice in their shared Buddhist faith that keeps one in the moment. Perry’s also got a sense of humor, saying, “[Is this] the daily ‘I’m alive’ call?”
