NEW DRAMA SCOOP From Friday 5 April, Netflix
In November 2019, Prince Andrew sat down in Buckingham Palace with journalist Emily Maitlis for a BBC2 Newsnight interview. It came after months of speculation about the royal's friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and Andrew hoped the chat would draw a line under a damaging controversy.
But when the interview aired two days later, it proved to be a colossal disaster for Andrew. His casual and detached manner and frankly bizarre answers to some questions drew both intense criticism and extreme ridicule.
Now, the story behind the infamous interview, from how it was secured to its filming and why Andrew agreed to take part, is told in Netflix's star-studded film SCOOP, starring Rufus Sewell as the royal and Gillian Anderson as Maitlis.
"The idea of doing a film about the interview might seem strange, because everyone's seen it, says The Diplomat and The Man in the High Castle's Sewell, 56. 'But it's really the story of how the women at Newsnight put him in front of the camera. It's not Andrew's story; it's that story.
