Marvel’s iconic super-spy Nick Fury takes centre stage in a much-anticipated spin-off series with real star power, as Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson is joined by Olivia Colman, Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle and Emilia Clarke for an action-packed adventure fuelled by conspiracy and espionage.

Launching on Disney+ this Wednesday, six-part thriller Secret Invasion follows former director of law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers founder Fury as he discovers a rogue faction of Skrulls – shapeshifting aliens – have been infiltrating all levels of human infrastructure and positions of power across the globe for years.

Fury had promised to find the extraterrestrial refugees a new home in 1995-set film Captain Marvel (2019), but he’s failed to deliver so far, so a Skrull extremist group has taken matters into their own hands.

As Skrulls can disguise themselves as anyone, knowing who to trust is a tricky task for Fury and his allies, including ex-CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Sherlock’s Martin Freeman), former S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Maria Hill (How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders) and Fury’s old friend and Skrull leader Talos (Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn), who has made a life for himself on Earth. Can they thwart the alien invasion?

‘Fury had a whole Skrull spy network because they could shapeshift and go places that people couldn’t. They kept their word and they worked for him, but he hasn’t done what he said he was going to do,’ says Samuel, 74.
