BEST INTERESTS NEW MON & TUE, 9PM, BBC1 DRAMA
A choice no parent would ever want to make is at the heart of BBC1’s much-anticipated new drama Best Interests.
Penned by award-winning screenwriter Jack Thorne (National Treasure, Help), the four-part series sees Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) and Michael Sheen (Quiz) play married couple Nicci and Andrew Lloyd, who share two teenage daughters – Katie (Conversations with Friends actor Alison Oliver) and Marnie (rising star Niamh Moriarty).
Marnie has a rare and life-limiting form of congenital muscular dystrophy, which has left her needing constant care. When her condition declines, doctors believe it is in the 13-year-old’s best interests to be allowed to die, but her devoted family disagree, and so begins an inexorable fight through the legal system as the Lloyds struggle to cope with the weight of the decision.
Here, Michael, 54, who has three children, and mum-of-two Sharon, 52, give us their take on the story…
