HER MAGIC UNDIMMED

The royal family turned out in force to pay touching tributes to the late queen a year after her passing

HER MAGIC UNDIMMED

HER beloved fell pony being guided through the late summer sunshine at Windsor Castle, gun salutes and tolling bells, bouquets of flowers, handwritten messages, Union Jack flags, loving tributes – all this and more marked the first anniversary of the passing of a woman whose death forever changed the nation she ruled.

Just two days after Queen Elizabeth’s last public event – greeting the UK’s new prime minister, Liz Truss – she was gone. And when her light went out, a little bit of specialness left the royal family too.

The queen’s death was commemorated by the royal family and people around the globe.

King Charles led the way, releasing a portrait of his mother taken in the earlier years of her reign. The image, which features the queen in garter robes and the Grand Duchess Vladimir’s Tiara, was chosen because it reflects her “sense of fun and the twinkle in her eye,” a palace source says.

Charles would’ve been battling with the anniversary, royal expert Richard Eden believes. “I suspect in some ways it might be harder for him than a year ago.

“For him the job of becoming king was what took over, so now I suspect he’s got time to reflect and it will probably be a sadder moment.”

Here’s how the king and other members of the royal family remembered a tiny woman who left a giant hole.
