MILLIONS of people will tell you their kids are the best thing to happen to them. That they enrich their lives, fill their days, that they bless them with grandchildren to enjoy in their retirement.
But there are others who say not having kids is one of the best things they did – and actor and comedian Seth Rogen is one of them.
His trophy cabinet is packed with awards and being childless is part of the reason behind his success, he says. In a recent interview on the podcast The Diary of a CEO, Seth reflects on his rise to fame and the fact that he’s had more time to devote to his career because he isn’t a dad.
“I work with a lot of people who have kids and I definitively have more time to do both the things I need to do and the things I enjoy doing than they do,” he says.
“I think a lot of people have kids before they can even think about it. You just get told you go through life, you have kids, that’s what happens. And me and my wife were just not like that.”
Seth and his actress wife, Lauren Miller (both 41), have been married for more than a decade and although they questioned their choice to be child-free in the past, he says their ability to enjoy their current lifestyle in the prime of their lives has reaffirmed their decision.
“Not to say kids don’t bring joy, but I say this truthfully – me and my wife seem to get a lot more active enjoyment out of not having kids than anyone I know seems to get out of having kids.”
Seth and Lauren are hardly alone – a recent study found more than one in five adults in the US opt to live a child-free life.
