Let us first address the issue regarding the chicken versus the egg or the seltzer and the tonic. Ultherapy (2004) uses ultrasound heat to stimulate collagen renewal deep within the skin, whereas Thermage (2002) uses radiofrequency energy to do the same, albeit in superficial skin layers. The latter treatment, however, and the point of this whole story, is to talk about the more visual specificities of Thermage and how it is the ace of anti-ageing. It lifts the look of sunken faces due to a loss of elasticity and collagen (we lose the latter at a rate of one per cent per year once we hit our twenties) and is best for patients whose primary concerns are fine lines and wrinkles.
