01. Nifemi Marcus-Bello
Renowned for his unorthodox practice, Lagos-based designer Nifemi MarcusBello is a key player on Africa's creative landscape, engaging in collaborations and crafting innovative designs that are embellished with historical perspectives. Weaving together inspirations from his African heritage with contemporary creativity, he delivers conceptual objects imbued with artistic value and functionality. He founded Nmbello Studio in 2017: 'I started it to feed the curiosity I had for creating objects and products that I believed could benefit from production and manufacturing processes available across the continent,' he says. 'I also wanted to figure out what it meant to design in Africa in a contemporary way? One of his standout pieces is the 'LM' stool, with its abstract, strikingly geometric form, available in an array of bold colours and offering a simple yet multifunctional sensibility.
