It is very rare indeed that our cover watch is a recognisable icon, which is obviously what the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique is, and has been since its debut in 1953, but more on that in a bit. It is typical that our covers should go to new watches – that is why you are reading this magazine. Even for us, such a choice is perplexing: what do we have to add on a watch that is already so well known?
