Ranunculus 'Elegance Viola'
This beautiful cultivar exudes opulence, making it one of my absolute favourites. The petal colour sits beautifully between dark purple and maroon, providing a beautiful contrast to some of the more vibrant, bright cultivars.
What Attractive, double-flowered Ranunculus asiaticus cultivars from the Italian Ranunculus Elegance Series that are prized as cut flowers. Common name is Persian buttercup.
Origins Series from Italy; species from southern Europe and southwest Asia.
Season From late spring to early summer when planted in November.
Size All of the cultivars featured range in height from 20-50cm and have a spread of 10-30cm.
Conditions Free-draining soil in a cool and bright position, avoiding excessive wet and cold conditions.
Hardiness Hardy throughout most of the UK, but will need protection from cold winters. All of the cultivars featured have a hardiness rating of RHS H4. USDA 8a-10b.
Warning The sap can cause irritation if it comes into contact with skin, so wear gloves when cutting and arranging flowers, and wash any sap off promptly.
Ranunculus 'Elegance Bianco Sfumato
A wonderfully soft ranunculus with white petals that are tipped with bright-pink edges, giving this cultivar a very soft yet intriguing composition. I found that this ranunculus worked very well in combination with some other softer pink forms.

Field of Dreams - The naturalistic gem Hans Gieszen has created in former meadowlands near Utrecht in the Netherlands is the culmination of a lifelong passion
Ever since his mother gave him seeds as a small boy, gardening has been a passion for Hans Gieszen. He is completely self-taught, relying on garden visits and books for instruction, with one book in particular, Dream Plants for the Natural Garden by Henk Gerritsen and Piet Oudolf, influencing his style. “It was fascinating,” says Hans, remembering his first encounter with the book. “All those photos – pictures with mists and these tall and low plants and grasses. I realised I couldn’t do it in my small garden, but I kept dreaming and reading about it.”
