Lashings of oil, cheese and meat – it’s no surprise that pizza doesn’t make the menu when you’re trying to shed pounds. But, if you’re one of the 50%* of Brits who say pizza is their favourite takeaway, this could mean ditching your diet altogether. ‘This is easier to digest due to its fermentation process, which breaks down gluten and phytic acid,’ says dietician Lucy Jones. Phytic acid can prevent the body from absorbing important minerals like iron and calcium.
WHOLEMEAL
High in fibre, a wholemeal base can support digestion and maintain fullness. It also contains more nutrients than refined flour bases, such as B vitamins and magnesium, says Lucy. These help boost your bone health, immune system and muscle function.
