Whenever I'm looking for a new pattern to sew I automatically lean towards dresses as I love how 'dressed up' you can look simply by putting on one item of clothing. However, with the cooler seasons fast approaching here in the UK I wanted something that I could wear year-round but that would feel like a new addition to my winter wardrobe. When I came across the Vanløse pattern by How To Do Fashion, I immediately fell for its sleek lines and vintage 1930s feel. I'm excited to have this pattern in my stash so I can adapt it for future makes.
FABRIC SELECTION
My fabric choice was initially based on the trousers. I wanted the trousers to have a bit of structure and hang well but still have movement. For the top I would have preferred lighter fabric with more drape but decided to go with the same triple crepe for a cohesive look. This subtle neutral colour will work well with my wardrobe and pair well with just about any colour jacket/coat. I would recommend fabrics with good drape for the top; and for the trouser I would recommend drape if you were making it for a casual look but firmer fabrics if you are looking to make a dressy style.
SEASONAL HACKS
This outfit will be suitable to wear through all the seasons and I can dress it up or down to suit any occasion. The trousers could also be hacked into shorts in the summer, or sleeves can be added to the top for the cold season. I've played around styling it with various coats and jackets for the winter, and it's also great that you can style the pieces separately to create an even wider variety of outfits.
